This week we'll see lots of ads for cards, flowers and diamonds - the "perfect" gift for the mother in your life.

While any of those would be lovely to receive, what I want most on Mother's Day is the gift of perspective.  You see, there's nothing like motherhood to narrow my focus down to laser sharpness.  In the daily grind of mothering, often all I see is what's happening this very moment.  Sadly, it's often the frustrating moments that get my greatest attention.  For example:

  • A complaint
  • A frustrated sigh
  • Rolled eyes
  • An annoyed tone
  • Forgotten homework
  • T-shirt on the ground
  • Drinking glass left on table

What does me in is the rapid fire little moments.  Then I'm a train on a runaway track to becoming the mother I don't want to become.

So how do I stop this downward cycle?

I lose perspective when I get in a defensive stance ... when it's all about what I perceive as being done TO ME.  When I feel cornered and attacked (whether it's happening or not), I react like a frightened cat - with growling and claws.

To stop this pattern, I need to recover from battle fatigue, and move into an offensive position.

I'm the mother
I'm the mother
I'm the mother

Not that I've ever chanted that in my head or anything ...

I realize that I've been given a very important assignment - the raising of God's children and the building of adults.  It's in these moments I realize, this is what really hard feels like.  Instead of giving up, I need to regroup and address the issues at hand.

This week, I'm going to be sharing some information from my book, "When Your Child is Hurting."  In this book, I address many of the common everyday hurts that children face, and offer practical help for parents.  As I wrote it, I realized that parents are often hindered from helping their children, because they themselves haven't worked through many of these issues.

We still feel lonely
We still get hurt when someone speaks unkind words about us
We still get discouraged
We still fail

In the celebration of Mother's Day, this week I'm going to share some insight that might help give you perspective, and change from a defensive position to an offensive one.  And I'm going to have some giveaways, including copies of my book.

So if you need some practical help, stop by tomorrow.  And please share my posts with moms who need a hand of encouragement and help.

In His Love,

Glynnis

Glynnis,
You are speaking straight to my heart today. How I wish I could hit the rewind button and handle so many mothering moments with greater grace and control. I know I'm not perfect, but my heart is heavy.

I look forward to reading your upcoming posts.

Blessings,
Kelli
