Overbearing and overly critical parents have the same effect - the child doesn't believe they're worth being treated well, and thus doesn't demand respect from others. This expectation that they will be treated poorly by others becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. <br /><br />This is actually my experience - I was a very competent, intelligent child who was considered a bother and a hindrance by my very critical mother (who felt that way about all children) and thus I grew up insecure and ended up in many bad and one abusive relationship before God finally got me away from all that and showed me who I really am as a child of His. :-)Anna Bnoreply@blogger.com
